xin (新) is mandarin for “new”, and hude (呼德) is mongolian for “pasture”. founded in 2014 by a group of returning young herders, the west ujimqin banner “xinhude” animal husbandry cooperative (新呼德畜牧业专业合作社) seeks to rebuild the collective systems of pasture management disrupted by market-oriented land reforms. over the past decade, the cooperative has grown to serve more than 10,000 households, providing veterinary care, insurance, training, market access, and credit. through voluntary participation, democratic governance, shared benefits, and collective risk, it works to restore both the health of the grasslands and the livelihoods and dignity of the herders who depend on it.

xinhude was one of the three rural community partners of the inaugural common ground 乡遇 gathering "from pasture, peak, and palm" in shanghai, september 2025.
